Avoiding Foreclosure

14.jpgThe last thing any homeowners would think about is losing their hard-earned property to foreclosure.

“Foreclosure is the legal process by which an owner’s right to a property is terminated, usually due to the failure to make required debt payments on a timely basis or to comply with other conditions of an obligation or agreement.”

Foreclosure is one of the most painful experience a family can ever have, but it can be avoided should the early signs are addressed.

- Don’t ignore the problem. The first step is to recognize you have a problem and that you need to deal with it.
- Don’t ignore the lender – answer your phone and open your emails. Avoiding them will not make any good. Who knows your lender is just trying to reach out and there might be some good compromise.
- Save money / Reduce expenses
- Get Help – The HOPE National Helpline is open 24 hours and provides free assistance. Contact them at 888-995-HOPE.

But the most important of it all is to prepare for contingencies. Always consider the “what if” of life. Have an action plan. What if the foreclosure still pushes through? Where will you go from there?
